Historic New Bridge Landing

New Bridge Landing is a National Historic Landmark — the only place in America that was a battleground, fort, encampment, military headquarters, and intelligence post in every year of the Revolution. George Washington retreated across the Hackensack River here on November 20, 1776.
The Steuben House, built circa 1713, is one of the oldest Dutch Colonial homes in Bergen County. Congress confiscated it from a Loyalist owner and awarded it to Baron von Steuben for his service to the Continental Army. It now serves as headquarters of the Bergen County Historical Society.
The 250th anniversary of Washington's retreat will be commemorated at New Bridge Landing on November 21-22, 2026.
